Vigo

In the south-west of Galicia, Vigo is an old fishing town known for its Galician cuisine featuring fish and other seafoods. With a long history dating to its use as a natural port during the times of the Romans, this modern port city is backed by mountains, which offer great views of the surrounds.

Well worth visiting in Vigo is the Municipal Park of Castrelos. This large city green space has Neoclassical gardens and artefacts from the Romans, including statues. There is also a museum specialising in Baroque art and more contemporary art from artists from the region.

Salamanca

The historical center of Salamanca has been declared World Heritage and a favourite place for students from around the world to learn Spanish. A university city, the University of Salamanca is one of the oldest in Europe.

Salamanca Plaza Mayor Square is also a popular attraction, built in Baroque style it is an active place during the day and night for visitors. The twin cathedrals are another place to visit here, one is built in Romanesque style with the Gallo Tower, dating back to the 12th century, while the newer one, adjacent, was built in the 16th to the 18th.

Pontevedra

The capital city of Pontevedra province, the old section of town has interesting architecture, including churches and civic buildings. The Provincial Museum of Pontevedra has Spanish Medieval art and a large collection of European art dating back to the 16th to the 18th Century.

Other attractions include the Sanctuary of the Pilgrim, the Plaza de España, Plaza del Teucro, Plaza de Cinco Calles and the Plaza de la Verdura and the basilica of Santa María.

Nature Reserve of Monte Aloia

Located in the Serra do Galiñeiro mountains, there are famous archaeological remains the Nature Reserve of Monte Aloia offers stunning views.

North Portugal

This part of Portugal is famous for its wines as well as Port.
