The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, with the majority of its population residing in its capital, is some 80 kilometres in length and 50 kilometres in width at its widest point. Despite its size, this independent country of Europe has much to offer the visitor, in arts, culture, scenery, cuisine and great shopping opportunities.

Luxembourg City is the largest in the country and its capital. Perched high above the rivers Alzette and Pétrusse is the old quarter, La Vieille Ville, where most of the city’s historic places to visit are located.

The city is also a perfect base for exploring the picturesque country side villages, the country is also covered by forests and diverse landscapes, waiting to be explored by walkers and bikers.

Indeed, the country is often referred to as the ’The Green Heart of Europe’, a third of the country is covered by forest and reserves.

Those who love castles and knights in shining armour should visit the large restored castles of Beaufort, Bourscheid, Bourglinster, Clervaux or Vianden. There are also many ruins to see, especially in the picturesque Valley of Eisch.

The Luxembourg Ardennes

Naturpark Our and the Naturpark Öewersauer, the two largest reserves in the country are found in the Ardennes, located in North Luxembourg.
