Venezia: This city, famed for its gondolas and romance, was the wealthiest city state in Europe from the 12th to the 18th Century. Its magnificent buildings and palaces, arts and culture continue to attract millions of visitors every year.
Trieste: An important Italian seaport, the city in its complex history reflects being the crossroads of Latin, Slavic, and Germanic cultures. Neoclassical and Art Nouveau architecture decorate much of the old town, especially the Piazza dell’Unità d’Italia. The Grand Canal and the Borgo Teresiano district are also fine examples.
Trieste also has a number of wonderful museums, art galleries and theatres here that will keep you exploring and entertained. Try not to miss the Cathedral of San Giusto and the Castle, as well as the Miramare Castle.
Parma: Antelami, Correggio, Parmigianino, Verdi and Toscanini have all lived and worked in this city. The Cathedral, the Baptistery and the Bishop’s Palace mark the old quarter of Parma. Parma is also known for its great food.
The Farnese Library and Theatre, the National Archaeological Museum, the Bodoni Museum and the National Gallery can all be found in the Palazzo della Pilotta.
