This region, to the north of Rome and on the coast of the Adriatic Sea has a number of interesting places to visit, some of them quite out of the way of the normal tourist droves that visit Italy in the warmer months. The region is hilly and marked by highlands, its proximity to the sea makes for a mild climate through the year.

Pesaro

At Pesaro, the Civic Museum is popular with Italians as well as foreign visitors, the Ceramics Museum has particulary outstanding examples. The Painting Gallery features works by Bellini, Bologna and Reni. At the Palazzo Americi and the Palazzo Moscow, both distinctive building in themselve, there is furniture, sculptures, exhibitions and displays of artworks from the Renaissance and later.

Macerta

Perugia

The region around Perugia is known to have been occupied since 600 B.C. by the Etruscans. The city, particularly the old town, is still marked by the encircling walls built by them. Outside of them is the wall built during the Middle Ages, protecting the medieval centre.
