National Parks

• Skjern A National Park: This park is the largest restoration project area in the Northern Europe to date. Protecting heath bogs and landscapres, rare and endangered plant and animals species inhabit the area, including the endangered Skern A Salmon and otters.
• Wadden Sea National Park: The largest National Park in Denmark is the Wadden Sea National Park, not only has it amazing wildlife and birdlife, but also beaches and tidal mudflats to explore. Visit the Wadden Sea Centre to experience even more.

Places to Visit

Esbjerg: Two of the main attractions to Esbjerg are the Tall Ships Races and the Wadden Sea National Park. Families will find lots of things to do here as well, with indoor and outdoor skating, the Fisheries and Maritime Museum, excellent beaches and boat tours. There are also chances to meet the Vikings and explore art.

Aabenraa: Nature can be explored here on foot and bicycle, there is the 74km long walk from Flensburg to Horuphav and the walk from Fynshav to Hardeshoj, some 46km long. Both Danish and German cultures have left strong influences here, there are 7 castles to visit as well as the Flensburger Schifffahrtmuseeum, the Cathrinesminde Brickyard Museum and the Storycentre Dybbøl Banke.

Herning: This Danish city, located on the Jutland peninsula has beaches to enjoy in the summer. Other attractions include the Herning Museum of Contemporary Art, the Jyllands Park Zoo, Præstbjerg Naturcenter, Baboon City and the Carl-Henning Pedersen & Else Alfelts Museum.

Aarhus: The region was occupied by Vikings from at least 900 A.D., making it the oldest major city in the country. An interesting place to visit is the Old Town, with medieval buildings from all over Denmark, not just Aarhus. Museums here include the large ARoS, dedicated to contemporary art and the Frihedsmuseet, a museum about the Danish resistance in WWII. Feminism is celebrated at the Kvindemuseet, showing its influence in history and culture.
