Denmark Places Travel Guide

Denmark Map - Map showing location of Denmark.

Once central to the Viking conquests, Denmark today is a friendly and open country to visitors. Most of the land is relatively flat, making bicycling an ideal way to explore the country. The roadways here are generally excellent, while train and bus services are known for being on time.

Copenhagen on the island of Sealand is the capital with a population of about 1.5 million and should be on the itinary of every visitor to Europe. The rest of the country, including the other main island of Funen, runs at a more relaxed pace.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is a clean, bustling city of Europe, easy to get around and wonderful to explore. You can visit many of the city’s attractions in the old centre of town, including the Tivoli Gardens, a favourite with families during the day and everyone at night.

Other notable attractions in Copenhagen include the Strøget, the world’s longest pedestrian street shopping mall, lined with speciality shops of all kinds. There are also dozens of restaurants and other places to eat.

The world famous Little Mermaid is located outside the Kastellet, another famous Copenhagen attraction on the northern part of the old town centre. Not far from here, is another place to visit, the Amalienborg, home to Denmark’s royalty for many years. More about City of Copenhagen.

Regions

The country has over four hundred islands as well as Jutland, the peninsula that extends from North Germany to Scandinavia. The largest island, Zealand, is closer to Sweden than it is to continental North Europe and is where the Denmark’s most important place to visit is situated, Copenhagen.

Places to visit in the rest of Denmark include Aalborg, Arhus Frederiksborg Slot, Helsinør, Odense, Roskilde and Legoland. At Legoland, a must for kids of all ages is a park where more than forty million Lego blocks were used to construct everything from animals to famous places around the world.
